Description

An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNER

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

  • A Wonderful Book!

I am probably one of the few who waited this long to read this amazing book. I wish I had read it sooner! I have been a fan of the Obamas since the beginning, even more so now. “Becomingik” confirms everything I thought I knew and loved about them both. Michelle is the kind of woman I would like to be, and the friend I’d like to have. I am humbled and inspired!

This book is a total misrepresentation of the woman. She is a total racist, anti-America, hater. Read between the lines. So sad that so many were fooled by her and her husband’s total disdain for the country that put them at it’s pinnacle. Shameful!

I could only read a sample of this, but I was very moved, even by the preface. The one thing that really stuck to me, which she wrote was why ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ Is such a useless question. It really is, there’s no denying that fact.

She’s garbage. And so is the book. Don’t listen to what all the critics tell you. They’re obviously didn’t read it or are certifiably stupid.
  • Amazing! One of the best books I’ve read!

This book I chose to read for my summer high school reading! And I do not regret my choice! I loved every chapter and page of this book ! The raw and exposed account of Michelle Obama’s life and time as a student, lawyer, activist and eventual First Lady, is so well written and I definitely recommend reading this!

Unlike the hopeful title, this turned out to be just more political revisionist rhetoric about how great the Obama’s term was (in their own minds), and how the soon to be minority of white American’s, (despite handing BHO the chance to become President, not once, but twice) remain the reason for her continued distaste(?) of American culture, patriotism and pride, showing no signs of real growth in understanding who and what the real enemies of Black Americans today. It’s this failure to look within and address the real truth, that kept this opportunity for real change to take place, hence her ‘becoming’ is reduced to self-satisfying pandering and promotion of an excuse for a failed presidency and diluted self image. Despite 8 yrs of unqualified and undeserved privilege and abuse of power, accumulation of unearned gifts of great wealth, and a documented history of blatant lies overlooked by liberals (“affordable low cost medical, keep your existing coverage, and your current doctors”, and the old “transparency’’ pledge long on rhetoric but short lived after inauguration, etc., the leftist media and of course the hopeful pawns who bought on to the false claims of great “change”, assuming that meant more “free everything’’...that never really followed, (along with jobs and self-reliance) the ghost writer/co-writer paint a delusional, biased, and false impression of the (lost in the process of becoming) First Lady whose opportunity to bring about unity and a real and meaningfully positive change was squandered on her vindictive liberal agenda to change America to something its not, a socialist race-bated society of European styled mediocrity by keeping us continually suspicious and at odds with each other.
